Pride month is an incredible time to celebrate, reflect, learn and uplift members of the LGBTIQ2S+ community. While we show support and allyship all year round, June presented the opportunity to revisit our Pride imagery as we start to see logos change in solidarity with the community.
We knew that our old Pride logo was outdated and not fully representative of the communities we acknowledge and support. So this year, we put pen to paper for a big and meaningful redesign to put the LGBTIQ2S+ community front and centre.
Hey! Why the redesign?
ATB’s updated logo includes the full spectrum of the Progress Pride flag colours. We want to recognize the intersectionality of BIPOC community members, trans individuals, those living with HIV/AIDS and those that have been lost. It was trans women of colour who first stood up for LGBTIQ2S+ rights at Stonewall. Without them, there would be no Pride as we know it.
“It’s all about momentum, movement and acknowledging the different lived experiences and intersectionalities of the community,” says Louis Martyres, senior manager diversity, inclusion and belonging and chair of ATB’s Pride Network. “The Progress Pride flag colours are about remembrance. It's about remembering where we came from, the progress we have made and the progress we have yet to make to achieve true equity, inclusion and belonging.”
What’s next?
ATB is committed to standing up for causes that are important to our clients and our community. We are dedicated to working internally to make ATB equitable for all who work and bank with us, and to do the work to support our diverse communities externally.
We are proud to continue our partnerships with the Calgary Centre for Sexuality and the Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services, which supports programs like OUTpost, fyrefly in Schools and Where the Rivers Meet. As well as Reading with Royalty in partnership with the Calgary Public Library.
Calgary Pride 2021
On Friday, September 3, we’re partnering with Monogram Coffee in support of the Centre for Sexuality’s ongoing efforts to help create safe spaces for LGBTIQ2S+ youth and allies to come together, build relationships and most importantly, be themselves. For each drink purchased at any of Monogram’s four Calgary locations on September 3, ATB will donate $2 to the Centre for Sexuality’s Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) programming.
We’ll donate an additional $20 if you share a public photo of your drink on Twitter or Instagram using #ATBPride. Finally, ATB will make another $50 donation to the Centre for Sexuality for each purchase of our limited edition #ATBPride crewneck, created in partnership with our friends at Local Laundry. You can purchase this crewneck starting September 3.

While we show up externally during Pride month and Pride celebrations, our work toward inclusion, diversity and belonging happens 365 days a year. Over the coming year, stay tuned for announcements and opportunities to engage and support the LGBTIQ2S+ community and beyond.
