Our five strategic pillars
Accountable leadership
Develop meaningful partnerships with Indigenous Peoples, championed by leadership.
We've implemented a comprehensive strategy to build meaningful relationships, supported by strong leadership and active community engagement. This strategy drives Reconciliation initiatives across the enterprise, fosters mutual relationships through ongoing engagement, and builds awareness and understanding of ATB’s Reconciliation efforts both internally and externally.
Our commitment to these principles will be formalized in our upcoming Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), set to be unveiled in 2025.
Client solutions and enablement
Provide equitable access to capital and client solutions for Indigenous Peoples.
ATB is committed to extending access to capital and addressing the unique needs of Indigenous Peoples, communities, and businesses. We continuously refine our products and services to align with these needs, with our dedicated team ready to assist.
We use our influence and resources to ensure equitable access to capital, provide tailored client solutions, and address specific community requirements. ATB adopts a decolonization approach, offering culturally appropriate products and services to better support Indigenous communities.
Truth and Reconciliation
Advance a truth-based approach through education and experiences.
Promote and embrace a truth-centered approach by incorporating education and firsthand experiences that infuse Indigenous cultural perspectives into our workplace, fostering support and advancement of the Reconciliation process.
Key areas of focus include:
- Embrace Truth: Offer Indigenous cultural awareness training for Senior Leadership Team, Executives, leaders, and team members across the enterprise. Implement PAR Certification training to further enhance understanding.
- Learn from Indigenous Communities: Engage with Indigenous communities directly to gain insights and awareness. Actively participate in Indigenous community events and create opportunities for meaningful learning about Indigenous culture and commemorative dates.
- Create Inclusive Spaces: Infuse Indigenous worldviews into the ATB workplace, including elements such as land acknowledgments and Indigenous art displayed in ATB branches and corporate spaces. Establish inclusive environments that reflect and respect the diversity of Indigenous cultures.
Accessible procurement
Expand Indigenous suppliers in ATB’s procurement processes.
Enhance the Indigenous economy by increasing the presence of Indigenous suppliers in ATB's procurement processes. Improve internal procurement methods to ensure equity with Indigenous suppliers by understanding existing procedures, policies, and programs. Develop a strategy for Indigenous supplier diversity, focusing on impactful investments. Support capacity building through online resources, informative sessions, and evaluating current spending with Indigenous businesses. Increase Indigenous supplier representation by engaging with them, identifying Indigenous-owned businesses for our supply chain, and using external databases for broader outreach.
Trusted people systems
To be the workplace of choice for Indigenous Peoples.
ATB is dedicated to fostering a culture of compassion, trust, inclusivity, accountability, and active participation from every team member. We strive to be an exemplary workplace for Indigenous individuals, reflecting the diversity of the communities we support. Our focus includes targeted recruitment initiatives, refining policies for greater inclusiveness, nurturing Indigenous talent, and integrating Indigenous perspectives into our employee value proposition.
Indigenous team member network
Team Member Networks serve as employee resource groups dedicated to fostering awareness and creating inclusive, secure environments that positively impact team members.
The Indigenous Team Member Network (ITMN) serves as a platform for both Indigenous team members and their allies to collaborate, sharing events, stories, and our collective efforts to advance Indigenous Relations within ATB. In conjunction with ATB's Annual Indigenous Relations Advisory Circle, the ITMN plays a crucial role in providing leadership and guidance for the organization's Indigenous Relations Strategy. This strategy encompasses our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, with a specific focus on addressing TRC Call to Action #92.
